Composition:

Procaine penicillin G........... 200 000 IU
Dihydrostreptomycin sulphate....... 200mg

Description:
Newpens is provided as a white or off-white suspension.
Pharmacological action:
The combination of procaine penicillin G and dihydrostreptomycine acts additive and synergetic effect. Procaine penicillin G is acts against mainly gram-positive bacteria like Compylobacter, Corynebacterium, Haemophilus, Erysiplothrix, Clostridial, Listeria, Staphylococus and Streptococcus spp. Dihydrostreptomycine acts against gram negative bacteria like, E.coli, klebsiella, Pasteurella, Salmonella and staphylococcus spp.
Indication:
Newpens is indicated for use in cattle, horses, sheep, goat and pigs for the treatment of systemic infections caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to penicillin and/or streptomycin including: Corynebacterium pyogenes, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Listeria spp, Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Staphylococcus spp (non penicillinase producing), Streptococcus spp, and Salmonella spp.
Newpens will therefore be effective in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms including: Erysipelas, navel/joint-ill, respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia and atrophic rhinitis, listeriosis, meningitis, septicaemia, toxaemia associated with mastitis, urogenital tract infections, enteritis associated with Salmonella spp, salmonellosis and the control of secondary bacterial invaders in diseases of primary viral origin.
The combination of penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin is especially useful in the treatment of mixed infections involving both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Dosage and administration:
Shake the vial before use. Administered by deep intramuscular injection.
Normal aseptic precautions should be taken.
Recommended dosage rate is 1ml per 25kg body weight for mature cattle, horse, sheep, goat and pig daily for 3 days. In young animal, the dosage should be 50% higher.
Side effect:
Allergic reaction may be observed in sensitized animal and should be treated with antihistamine and /or corticosteroids. Over dosage may cause ototocicity, neurotoxicity, central nervous system adverse effect in some animals and should be treated in systematic way.
Contra-indications and Warning:
Care should be taken not to exceed the recommended dosage.
Contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to amino-glycosides, with serious impaired renal functions, administration with tetracycline, macrolides and lincomycines. Following withdrawal of the first dose use the product within 28 days and discard unused material.
Withdrawal times:
Meat: 18 day after last day of treatment
Milk: 3 days after last day of treatment
Validity:
2 years following manufacturing date.
Packing: 50ml or 100ml vials
Storage:
Store in dry dark place between 15ºC to 25ºC away from direct sunlight.
